A jealous husband has clubbed to death a 20-year-old Air Force recruit candidate at Ungwan Shanu, a suburb of Kaduna. The suspect, an Okada rider, now at large, was said to have ambushed the deceased after placing a call through his phone to meet him at his residence.
Sources said the husband suspected his wife was dating the deceased. The deceased, Yusuf Saidu, had undergone the last lap of recruitment screening before his dream of having a carrier in the Nigerian Air Force was terminated. Narrating the incident to Daily Sun, Saidu’s elder sister, Bara’atu Saidu, a Nagarta Radio broadcaster, said her brother returned from the recruitment centre at the Air Force Base in Kaduna and was eating dinner before he rushed out to the house of the suspect who was suspected to be the caller. She said 15 minutes later she received a distress call that something nasty had happened to Saidu. He was discovered to have been clubbed with a wooden pestle by passers-by who identified him lying unconscious in his own pool of blood. He was rushed to Barrau Dikko Hospital where he gave up the ghost few hours later: “We were at the hospital before he died. The suspect’s wife came to the house to confirm to us that her husband was behind the whole incident and that he had absconded from town leaving her with the children. This also confirmed his frequent threat to kill Yusuf if he ever saw him near his wife.” Bara’atu contacted the Kaduna State Police Commissioner. She was assured that the police would swing into action if the exact location of the suspect was confirmed.
Daily Sun gathered that the suspect called one of his friends confirming that he had achieved his goal and was approaching Abuja on the night of the murder. Bara’atu wanted the police to speed up investigation to bring him to justice adding that, only then would the family and the slain victim’s soul would be put to rest.
The suspect’s wife, the principal witness who was at the Kawo Police Station told Daily Sun in an interview that the gravity of herhusband’s jealousy led them to be evicted from their two previous rented houses in Abuja: “My husband is a very jealous man who suspects me with any man he sees talking to me. I do not understand why he had to cut short the life of a promising boy like Yusuf whom I watched grow like my little brother.” Spokesperson of the Police, DSP Aminu Lawal, confirmed the incident. He said the police have already commenced investigation with a view to tracking down the suspected culprit and to bring him to justice.
