Tragedy was averted few hours ago, as five policemen slumped at the pull-out and sent forth ceremonies for the Ogun state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Nicholas Daru Nkemdeme.
The victims were however promptly attended to by the Police medical team, who were present with a new medical bus at the well attended occasion held at the M.K.O Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta.
The first casualty was a team leader, who slumped while the retiring Commissioner was taking salute of the parade by the about 250 men and officers of the state command. Four others followed from the team in spate of five minutes intervals, a development which was attributed to fatigue and the weather.
Also, the time schedule for the programme was 10.00am, but, it did not start till about 12.30pm, leaving the parade team in the scorching sun for hours.
In his the Police boss described the event as a milestone in his life, noting that it has brought “to an end the voyage of an uncertainty I embarked upon since 1st March 1977 to a certain, glorious and successful end.”
Nkemdeme said that he counted himself “a tough man having passed through tough and challenging times during my service years. I acquired a lot of operational, managerial and administrative experiences and learnt more on the need for effective human relationships.”
He equally acknowledged the support given by his immediate family, including his wife, “as they stood by me and gave me the needed encouragement and support. I also appreciate officers and men of the Command for their numerous.
If they can slump on ordinary parade that means they are not fit for the work .does that mean that 9jar police does not train.how can they combat crime.
