AWKA—THE Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has dismissed the planned re-declaration of Biafra Republic on November 5th this year by the Biafran Zionist Movement, BZM, saying the declaration was done by MASSOB leader, Chief Ralph Uwazurike when he hoisted the Biafran flag at Fauks road, Aba, Abia State on May 22, 2000.
Leader of BZM, another Biafra pressure group, Mr. Ben Onwuka, said last week that his group had applied to the United Nations for recognition and that following acknowledgment of the application, the declaration would be made on November 5th.
Reacting to the development yesterday, MASSOB director of information, Mr. Uchenna Madu said the stage of declaration in the struggle had passed.
He said: “MASSOB, as the pioneer organization and champion of Biafran struggle is not against any genuine group clamouring for Biafra. Indeed, any pressure group is a complement to MASSOB’s 13 years of consistency, uncompromising and unshakable struggle.
But MASSOB will not support or accommodate gambling or seeking cheap popularity by any group. It is suicidal for any Igbo man to trade with the future of Biafra and MASSOB under Uwazurike represents genuine interest of Ndigbo and Biafrans in general in a non violence struggle.
The declaration had been done by Uwazurike and Biafran governmental structures are existing in all local government areas in Eastern region, while a shadow government of Biafra already exists through regional administrators.”
“MASSOB under Uwazurike, sent Biafran bill of right to the United Nations before hoisting the flag at Aba and observer status had already been granted which prompted many nations to allow Biafra have mission houses in their countries, while Biafra Radio had been established. Because of Biafra, Uwazurike sacrificed his houses in Lagos and Imo states and saw and conquered death. He is still faithful and unrelenting to the struggle and millions of MASSOB members adore him.”
