No fewer than 20 persons were said to have been killed, on Tuesday evening, while more than 20 houses were also set ablaze in renewed hostility between suspected Tiv farmers and Alago community at Rukubi village in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Investigations by the Nigerian Tribune revealed that the latest crisis was not unconnected with the alleged harbouring of Fulani mercenaries in the village by Alago people. It was further gathered that eight vehicles belonging to Alago were also burnt.

Informed police source told our correspondent that the incident took Alago people unaware as over 100 Tiv farmers reportedly armed to the teeth suddenly besieged the village, and started shooting.

Reports monitored from the village indicated that more than 20 people also sustained various degrees of injuries, while other inhabitants of the community have vacated their various homes and currently taking refuge in Doma town to avoid being caught in the latest unrest.

When Nigerian Tribune visited the state Police headquarters in Lafia, the state capital last night for confirmation, the state Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO), ASP Cornelious Ocholi, was to said to have gone to Makurdi in Benue State for a seminar.

Efforts to see the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Shehu was not successful as he was said to have led a team of fierce-looking combined mobile police officers to the area, while calls made to his MTN line was not returned.
