the road should be barricaded if they don't want people to cross it. you can't treat people like this in advance countries.

Most of you guys are just commenting in ignorance. The soldier has no right to punish that man for whatsoever reason. This is not part of the job description of the military! Crossing the express road is not nearly as bad as the looting and gross indiscipline going on in our high places. If that man has broken the law, then he should be taken to court. The stupid soldier has no business with enforcing the law. Unless we are back to military rule

Until I read your comment I desperately searched for a reasonable post but found none! Thanks for putting the situation in it's proper perspective and pointing out the role of a soldier in a civil society.

It is the duty of the police and NOT that of the soldier to maintain law and order in any civil society INCLUDING Nigeria! What the soldier did is an offence and should be prosecuted for that! The initial offender should've been arrested by the police and if necessary charged and prosecuted.

It is also a frightening fact as demonstrated on this forum that most of our dear citizens cannot divorce the duties of a soldier and that of the police in the country as a whole!! Instead of questioning the right of the soldier to usurp the role of adjudicator and enforcer of the law they are applauding him for punishing the man! Although it's hilarious it is also a saddening fact!

I think the soldier should have asked the guy to pin his head on the hard hot cement slab on the road.  He is just to lenient on the stupid suicide intending road crosser.  Any of you that is dissatisfied with the soldier, go and cross the road without taking pedestrian bridge.  You should be ready for any dire consequence you get after your disobedience to law.  Shikena.
