A 39-year old Olasunkanmi Ogunkoya has been arrested, charged before a Lagos court and handed six years imprisonment without an option of fine for stealing packets of Indomie noodles in Lagos. He pleaded guilty before the Ejigbo Magistrates court and told the police that he did so to feed his 4-year old child that his wife abandoned and left because he had no money. The incident happened at a shop located at 10 Ifelodun Street off Moshalasi Bus Stop, Ejigbo Lagos.
The suspect, Ogunkoya reportedly broke into the shop belonging to one Mrs Bimbo Adesegun through the shop’s ceiling, carted away the items and attempted to escape before he was caught in the night. Among the items he reportedly stole were half carton of Indomie noodle packs and a full pack worth about N3,000. He also damaged the roof worth about N48,000.
The owner of the property, Mrs Adesegun informed the court that it was not the first time, Ogunkoya was burgling her shop to steal some items before this one that landed him in prison.
When the suspect was arraigned, he accepted being guilty but pleaded with the court for leniency. The prosecutor Supol Kenneth Asibor presented facts before the court which was confirmed by the Ogunkoya. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J.O.E. Adeyemi found him guilty as charged on the three counts and sentenced him accordingly.
However, the three count charge will run concurrently as each charge attracted two years imprisonment.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that by implication, Ogunkoya will spend the next two years in Kirikiri prison, Lagos

the police and the judge are very stupid to jail him for 6 years because the Lady that stole nail remover worth 10k from a supermarket was given a fine of 10k but someone who stole noddles is given 6 years with a country and when a politician steal billions of naira the judge will tell him to pay 10m.

what do you expect? The laws in Nigeria are only meant for the poor, yet when the polithievians, the constitutional looters, the outright thieves and looters (the stealing-is-not-corruption lot) strikes, the same very poor will defend them. Just like we have them here on this forum. All ye who are supporting Dieziani and Mama P, etc are guilty of this. Smh

On one hand, little drops of water makes an ocean. Today it might be indomie, tomorrow it might be high way robbery. Very harsh sentence though.. what about the kid?
