The winner of Miss Universe 2018 is Catriona Gray of the Philippines.
The Philippines, a country obsessed with beauty pageants, is celebrating its fourth Miss Universe win, sparking a wave of pride and support online.
#CatrionaGray beat her global contestants in an early morning final in Bangkok, Thailand on Monday where nearly a hundred women from around the world vied for the coveted crown. #SteveHarvey returned as the host and Ashley Graham co-hosted alongside Carson Kressley and Lu Sierra.
The competition whittled down to the final 5 women, which included Gray, Miss Vietnam H'Hen Nie, Miss Canada Marta Magdalena Stepien, Miss South Africa Tamaryn Greenand Miss Venezuela Sthefany Gutiérrez.
Ms Gray, aged 24, was born in Cairns to an Australian father and a Filipina mother. She grew up in Australia but moved to Manila to work as a model and actress.
Miss Philippines was crowned December 17, 2018 at Impact, Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi Province, Thailand.
Miss Philippines was crowned by the 2017 winner,Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa. Runners up for the coveted title were Miss South Africa, Tamaryn Green, who placed second, and Miss Venezuela, Sthefany Gutierrez, who placed third.
