Renowned Nollywood actress, Yetunde Bakare, has offered her perspective on the dynamics of modern relationships, shedding light on the often-debated question of what women bring to the table in a partnership.
In an exclusive interview with The Punch, Bakare shared her observations, suggesting that such inquiries from men may stem from a perception of the woman's potential and purpose within the relationship.
"I personally think that is not a general question. Nobody has ever asked me that," Bakare remarked. "I feel men often ask such questions when they don’t see the woman they are with as someone who has potential."
She elaborated, noting that men may scrutinize their partners and conclude that they lack vision or ambition. "He might also see her as someone who is more interested in a luxury lifestyle that she cannot afford on her own," she added, implying that such questioning could prompt a reassessment of the relationship's compatibility.
Transitioning to the broader societal context, Bakare expressed concern over the escalating cost of living in Nigeria, emphasizing the strain it places on individuals and families. "The current state of the economy makes me speechless sometimes," she admitted. "I wonder how people are surviving, especially those earning monthly salaries and having to cater to large families."
Reflecting on the financial pressures faced by many, Bakare urged government intervention to alleviate the burden on citizens. "It is really frustrating, and something needs to be done urgently," she emphasized. "Things are getting out of hand. A lot of people now spend more than they earn, and it’s driving them into depression."
Bakare's insights underscore the complex interplay between relationship dynamics and economic realities, highlighting the need for proactive measures to address the challenges faced by Nigerians in navigating both personal and financial spheres.
