The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the tragic killing of six officers and the disappearance of six others in a cowardly ambush in Delta State, South-South Nigeria.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the officers exhibited exceptional bravery but fell victim to armed assailants while on a mission to investigate the disappearance of three colleagues in the Ohoro Forest, Delta State.

The fallen officers were identified as Inspector Abe Olubunmi, Inspector Friday Irorere, Sergeant Kuden Elisha, Sergeant Akpan Aniette, Sergeant Ayere Paul, and Sergeant Ejemito Friday. Additionally, Inspector Onoja Daniel, Inspector Onogho Felix, Inspector Emmanuel Okoroafor, Inspector Joel Hamidu, Sergeant Moses Eduvie, and Sergeant Cyril Okorie are currently missing in action.

The Nigeria Police Force expressed profound sadness over the loss and extended condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen heroes. Plans are underway to honor them posthumously at the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations Ceremony scheduled for April 5th, 2024, in Abuja.

In response to the tragedy, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has taken decisive actions. The bodies of six slain officers have been recovered, and efforts are ongoing to locate the missing officers. Adejobi assured that all families have been contacted, and measures are in place to expedite the processing and payment of their entitlements.

The Police have intensified efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice, with five suspects already arrested in connection with the incident. The Inspector General has mandated the deployment of resources to ensure the swift arrest of all involved.

Adejobi emphasized the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to respond decisively to the loss of its officers and reiterated their dedication to combating crime despite the inherent risks associated with their duties.

falling heroes indeed....maybe delta state don't want the presence of uniform men in the state. They want a complete anarchy and want to rule themselves. This is the 2nd massacre within a short while. It is no longer business as usual. Until the govt embrace state policing and let the indigene guard their own people, you just can't send the yorubas to a delta forest to combat people who were born in that terrain and knows its ins and out, Nigeria I hail thee
