In a significant bust, operatives from the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS), part of the Lagos State Police Command, have apprehended a dispatch rider involved in the theft and illegal sale of high-value mobile phones. The suspect, 27-year-old Matthew Odah, known by the moniker "Mr. Lemon," was captured at Alpha Beach, Lagos, after eluding capture for eight months.

The arrest, which also involved two buyers of the stolen goods, was announced via the Command’s X social media account on Sunday. Police managed to recover one of the stolen iPhones during the operation.

Details provided by the police indicate that on August 23, 2023, Odah, while employed as a dispatch rider, was entrusted with three iPhones — one iPhone 14 Pro Max (128 GB) and two iPhone 11 models (128 and 68 GB) — for delivery to a customer in Lekki. Instead of completing the delivery, Odah allegedly absconded with the devices and subsequently sold them in Obalende for N300,000, turning off his phone to avoid tracking.

A thorough and discreet investigation ultimately led to his arrest at Lemon Bus Stop near Alpha Beach. Following his capture, Odah confessed to the sale of the iPhones.

The police statement confirmed that Odah, along with the individuals who purchased the iPhones, will be arraigned following the conclusion of the ongoing investigation. This case highlights ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Police to clamp down on criminal activities within the city's burgeoning gig economy.
