In a commendable display of integrity, Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Sini has revealed that he declined a staggering N150 million bribe offered to him by a Lagos-based businessman, Akintoye Akindele, to compromise an investigation.
The revelation came during a dinner organized to honor Sini, where he recounted the incident and emphasized the importance of upholding integrity in public service. Sini, who heads the team of investigators handling the case against Akindele, disclosed that the bribe was aimed at securing favorable treatment for the businessman, including facilitating his escape abroad and manipulating investigative reports.
“I remember when the incident happened, the person in question asked me, 'Do you want to be rich?' He presented it as an opportunity for wealth," Sini recounted. "But I value peace of mind more than riches that would keep me restless. I chose to do the right thing to uphold justice and maintain my peace of mind."
Akindele, who was arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja in August 2023, remains remanded in the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further legal proceedings related to the bribery charges against him.
At the dinner, Sini was honored with a plot of land in Abuja for his exemplary conduct, which has brought pride to the Nigerian Police Force, according to the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh.
In his remarks, Sini urged Nigerian youths to prioritize integrity over personal gain, emphasizing that compromising one's principles for material wealth ultimately leads to moral bankruptcy.
The event underscored the significance of ethical conduct in law enforcement and public service, highlighting Sini’s steadfast commitment to upholding justice and the rule of law in Nigeria.
