Nigerian singer and songwriter Davido has expressed his willingness to grant full custody of his daughter, Imade, to her mother, Sophia Momodu. This development follows Momodu’s recent counter-affidavit raising concerns about Davido's ability to provide a safe environment for their child.
Momodu's legal filings cite the tragic loss of Davido's son, Ifeanyi, in 2022 as evidence for her concerns. "The fact that the applicant lost his son in his house in rather unfortunate and questionable circumstances shows that our daughter cannot be placed in the custody of the applicant," she stated.
Additionally, Momodu highlighted Davido's lifestyle, which includes frequent travels and exposure to negative media attention, as potentially harmful to Imade. She argued that the singer's controversial lifestyle could subject their daughter to unnecessary trauma. "The applicant cannot take proper care of our daughter because he lives a controversial lifestyle (negative media attention) that will expose our daughter to more negative trauma at her tender age," Momodu's affidavit read. She also expressed concerns about unsavory individuals in Davido's circle, stating that they would not be a good influence on an impressionable young girl like Imade.
In response to these allegations, Davido took to social media to express his frustration and sadness. He accused Momodu of using the death of his son to manipulate the custody situation.
Davido also clarified his initial request for joint custody, expressing disappointment at the negative portrayal of his intentions.
In response to a user who commented on the situation, Davido tersely replied,
The situation remains tense as both parties navigate the legal and emotional complexities of their custody battle.
