Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has issued a stern warning to local government and education authority officials who allegedly misappropriated N30,000 Sallah gifts intended for state workers. He has demanded the immediate return of the diverted funds, promising serious consequences for those who fail to comply.
Addressing a large crowd of well-wishers and supporters at the Government House in Sokoto on Friday, Governor Aliyu expressed his dismay over the actions of certain financial officers. These individuals, particularly at the local government level, have reportedly denied staff members the Sallah gifts approved by the state government.
“I wonder how somebody would deny our workers the stipends we gave them to make them financially stable during the Sallah festive season,” the governor remarked. “Those who diverted the funds must return them immediately, or else we will take punitive measures against them.”
The governor’s comments were contained in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Abubakar Bawa, and made available to news outlets. Aliyu emphasized the need for accountability and transparency in managing public funds, vowing to take strict actions against corrupt practices.
He directed all heads of agencies involved in the misappropriation to quickly compile a list of affected workers and ensure they receive their rightful payments. He assured the citizens of Sokoto State that his administration is committed to prudent financial management for the benefit of all.
“This administration is all out to ensure zero tolerance for corruption and all corrupt tendencies,” Aliyu stated. “If anybody thinks he can loot public funds and get away with it, then he must be sick. This administration is a true reflection of the government of the people, for the people, and indeed by the people.”
Governor Aliyu called on the people of Sokoto State to continue supporting his administration in its quest to fulfill campaign promises and uphold good governance.
The governor’s firm stance underscores his commitment to rooting out corruption and ensuring that public funds are used appropriately to enhance the welfare of the people.
