The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Friday that its forces in Syria successfully eliminated Abu-‘Abd al-Rahman al-Makki, a senior leader of the terrorist group Hurras al-Din, in a targeted strike.
Hurras al-Din, a group aligned with Al-Qaeda in Syria, has been designated a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" by the U.S. since September 2019 under Executive Order 13224. Al-Makki, a key council member within the organization, was responsible for orchestrating terrorist operations in the region.
According to Fox News, the operation that led to al-Makki's death was described as a "targeted kinetic strike" carried out in Syria.
General Michael Erik Kurilla, Commander of CENTCOM, reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to combating terrorism, stating, "CENTCOM remains committed to the enduring defeat of terrorists in the CENTCOM area of responsibility who threaten the United States, its allies and partners, and regional stability."
CENTCOM further emphasized that groups like Hurras al-Din, which oppose the West and its allies, including the United States, continue to be a primary focus of their counterterrorism efforts.
