On Friday, an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo sentenced two men, Thadideus Ogwuche, 34, and Olabode Iseyemi, 48, to two years in prison each for stealing 303 bags of baking flour valued at ₦3.4 million. The court found the men guilty of conspiracy, theft, and unlawful conversion of the stolen goods.
The convicts, whose addresses were not disclosed, pleaded not guilty to the charges. However, the Presiding Magistrate, O. L. Oke, ruled that the evidence presented in court proved their guilt beyond reasonable doubt. The court handed down the sentences without the option of a fine.
According to the Prosecutor, Inspector Olaide Rawlings, the men committed the crime on September 4, 2017, at De-United Food Company, located along Idiroko Road in Ota, Ogun State. The duo, both employees of the company, allegedly sold the 303 bags of flour and failed to remit the proceeds, instead converting the money for personal use.
The offenses violated Sections 516, 390, and 390(6) of the Ogun State Criminal Code, 2006.
