A Nigerian woman has sparked outrage online after sharing the harrowing story of how her 15-year-old son was kidnapped by the police and taken to the Anti-Cultism Unit simply for delivering food to a customer.
In a detailed post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the woman recounted the terrifying ordeal, which took place a few years ago. At the time, her son had just finished his WAEC exams and was helping with a food delivery when police officers abducted him.
According to her account, the officers seized his phone and transported him to the Anti-Cultism Unit in Gbagada. Unaware of his whereabouts, the woman and her husband searched frantically across Victoria Island, only to receive a call from their son, whose voice was filled with fear.
Rushing to the police station with their lawyer, they were confronted with a disturbing scene—her son was found half-naked, sitting on the ground alongside over 100 others. Overcome with emotion, she collapsed in tears.
The woman's husband, a British citizen, confronted the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) demanding an explanation. The chilling response he received was simply, “Because he dyed his hair.” No other reason was given.
The family was then forced to pay for their son’s release, adding to the trauma of the situation. The emotional toll was so severe that the woman, who was seven months pregnant at the time, went into premature labor and had to undergo an emergency C-section.
“My son’s only ‘crime’ was helping with his parents’ legitimate business,” the woman said. “For my husband to witness such injustice was deeply painful.”
As the post went viral, social media users expressed their shock and outrage, demanding accountability for the incident and highlighting the abuse of power by the police.
