The Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) has been plunged into mourning following the sudden passing of three prominent clerics on January 1, 2025.
The deceased, identified as Evangelist Oladotun Elusanmi, Shepherd Olumuyiwa Michael, and Assistant Venerable Superior Evangelist Johnson Olajuwon, were announced dead in a statement released by the church's Secretary of the Pastor in Council and Head of Media and Publicity, Superior Evangelist Kayode Ajala.
Ajala confirmed the losses on the church's official website, describing the deaths as a significant blow to the CCC community.
Assistant Venerable Superior Evangelist Johnson Olajuwon, who served as the prophet of the Celestial Church of Christ Saint S.B.J. Oshoffa Cathedral, Ketu, was reported to have read the second lesson during the crossover service before passing away in the early hours of the new year.
Shepherd Olatosho Oshoffa of CCC International Headquarters, Ketu, expressed deep sorrow, describing Olajuwon as a dedicated and loyal servant of God.
The deaths of Evangelist Oladotun Elusanmi and Shepherd Olumuyiwa Michael were announced on social media. The CCC Christ Testimony Parish, Ikorodu, shared news of Michael’s passing on its Facebook page, while Elusanmi’s death was confirmed through the Instagram account ‘Celestialgeneration.’
Addressing speculations surrounding the coincidence of the deaths, Superior Evangelist Ajala urged members to avoid attaching superstitious interpretations.
“Death is inevitable and comes at its appointed time for everyone,” he stated. “In a church as large as Celestial, the loss of three individuals on the same day, though coincidental, should not be viewed as mysterious. The Bible reminds us there is a time to be born and a time to die. Let us hold on to our faith and avoid superstitions.”
The church community continues to grieve while celebrating the lives and contributions of the three departed clerics.
