President Goodluck Jonathan appears to be coasting home to victory going by early results in yesterday’s presidential polls, though his running mate, Architect Namadi Sambo, lost in his Kabala Doki/Costain polling unit to Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) which garnered 435 votes to PDP’s 208. Jonathan is closely followed by the Presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, General Mohammadu Buhari.

Analysis of the result received from polling units across the South West shows that the PDP candidate is in a comfortable lead in the region which was swept by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in last week’s National Assembly poll.

Feelers from the South East also indicate that the President is in the lead in the region particularly in Anambra and Imo state where some of the results were declared at the polling units.

Reports also showed that Jonathan is expected to make a clean sweep of the South South which is the region he hails from. The result from his polling unit in Otuoke, Bayelsa state gave the incumbent President almost 100% of the total votes cast. All candidates of the other parties got zero votes in Otuoke.
The President’s closest rival, however, made an impressive showing in Oyo, Katsina, his home state and Kano where he is leading the outgoing governor and presidential candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau.
