An x-rated seven-minute video which shows the bizarre encounter between an engineering lecturer at the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Peter Otubu and a 400 level Electrical/Electronic student, Judith Okosun went viral on the Internet moments after it was posted on video-sharing site, Youtube.
Clips of the video are now been circulated in the university town, and nearly every student has seen the clip or downloaded it on their phones or laptops.
In the video, the disrobed lecturer was publicly humiliated by students of the institutions in the one-room apartment of the female student who could be overheard berating the lecturer for seeking to force her to have sex with him in exchange for good grades in his course.
In the recorded video clip, the revered lecturer, a catholic Knight of Saint Molumba (KSM), was seen obeying the commands of the students - including the order to drop his pants, and the signing of a cheque for N100,000 in favour of his would be victim.
The university teacher's pleadings with the students were ignored, as they persistently humiliated him, insulting him at will. The lecturer, who is in his 50s, was held hostage for several hours at the one-room apartment of the female student, until another lecturer came to his rescue.
Sources at the school revealed that the lecturer had pestered the female student for several years, failing her on two occasions for her refusal to yield to his segxwal advances. In frustration, the female student, Miss Okosun apparently lured the lecturer into believing that she was willing to succumb to his advances if he promised to pass her.
During the discussion on where they would meet, the lecturer allegedly suggested a hotel, but the student said she would prefer to host him in her one-room apartment. She was said to have argued that she would be more comfortable there, especially since the other students have travelled after their first semester examinations.
Mr Otubu, oblivious of her intentions, drove to the house for the meeting on the arranged day and still not sensing foul play, removed his clothes, only for the girl to run out of the room with the garments, shouting to draw the attention of those with whom she had previously arranged a signal.
A dark dayThe world turned bleak for the lecturer when the crowd of students arrived and proceeded to humiliate him. He was made to undress for the camera and sign a cheque - which he guaranteed they could cash at the end of the month. After his rescue however, the lecturer headed for the police station where he complained that the students kidnapped him.
The police were said to have stormed the residence of the students and arrested every available student, but they were later released on the intervention of the school authority.
The female student and the lecturer were not available for comments, as they were said to have left town. Effort to reach the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Ekpoma was also not successful.
A senior official at the university who preferred to be anonymous, said the school management was yet to receive any petition regarding the incident. He however said both the student and the lecturer would not be spared whenever the management meets on the matter.
"Both of them brought the school to disrepute," he said. "The student breached her matriculation oath, in addition to her action of making the lecturer sign a cheque under duress.
