In a shocking turn of events, the Kwara State Police have captured Atolagbe Yemi Oje, a suspect accused of molesting and murdering a mother of one, Mayowa Ajiboye, purportedly for ritual purposes. The victim, a palm oil seller residing in the Omu-Aran area of the state, met a tragic fate, allegedly raped to death, her corpse burnt, and the remains dumped inside a river by the suspect.
Describing the suspect as "a monster" and the act as "barbaric," the state Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, condemned the heinous crime. According to him, the incident unfolded when the victim initially paid N1,600 to the suspect last November to procure firewood in the forest, a service he failed to provide.
On February 22, 2024, the victim and her young daughter, Ope, ventured into the bush to fetch firewood, where they encountered Oje. Seizing the opportunity, Oje allegedly lured the victim deeper into the forest under the guise of gathering firewood, only to execute his sinister motive.
"After they had gone far into the bush, the suspect suddenly grabbed the deceased from behind while she was on a phone call and knocked her down. Despite her attempts to defend herself, he viciously assaulted her, raped her, and performed disturbing acts allegedly for ritual purposes," explained CP Olaiya.
The suspect then purportedly slaughtered the victim with a cutlass, set her remains ablaze, and disposed of the burnt body in a nearby river to conceal the crime. Furthermore, Oje confessed to killing the woman after molesting her to avoid being exposed.
Investigations into the case are ongoing, with the police vowing to ensure justice is served. Once the investigation concludes, the suspect will face charges for his alleged crimes, facing the full weight of the law for this atrocious act.
