Amaka Sunnberger, a Nigerian expatriate residing in Canada, is under investigation by the Toronto Police Service following threats she allegedly made to poison individuals of Yoruba and Benin descent. The threats have ignited widespread outrage and prompted immediate action from both Nigerian and Canadian officials.
Sergeant Bassey Osagie of the Toronto Police Service confirmed the seriousness of the situation. “We are actively investigating the reported threats and taking all necessary steps to address the matter,” Osagie stated.
The controversy has drawn the attention of the Nigerian House of Representatives and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM). Both organizations have formally petitioned Canadian authorities, calling for a comprehensive investigation and potential prosecution of Sunnberger. The inflammatory remarks have heightened tensions within the Nigerian community in Canada and around the world, leading to calls for swift and decisive action.
