The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has reiterated its ban on the use of firecrackers, knockouts, and other fireworks during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, urging residents to adhere to the restrictions for safety reasons.
In a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the ban is part of efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents throughout the festive season. Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, emphasized that the use of such items could lead to unnecessary panic and anxiety in the capital, posing significant risks including fire hazards and other preventable accidents.
The statement further warned that both the sellers and users of firecrackers and fireworks would face arrest and prosecution. Community leaders and residents have been encouraged to raise awareness about the dangers of these items, with authorities pledging strict enforcement of the ban during the holiday period.
