THE nation's security agencies have drawn up a watch list for possible sponsors of the activities of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, particularly politicians, who are thought to be the financiers, and look set to expose them.
This formed part of the outcome of a high level security meeting in Abuja on Friday where the agencies affirmed their resolve to expose top politicians with links to the group which has caused so much misery to innocent people in parts of the country.
A source close to the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) revealed that some politicians were now being watched following their possible financial contributions to the sect activities in their attempt to destabilise the government of President Goodluck Jonathan.
The source which said that the meeting was fruitful, noted: "at least, for the first time, we now have a watch list with names of possible backers to terror groups. Very soon we will expose them. We all agreed that while we sustain the stick and carrot approach, the battle against terrorism can be ended in no distance time if people with link are exposed."
It disclosed that the office of the NSA has requested for the details of the alleged involvement of the politicians in the formation and operations of terror groups in the country.
Saturday Tribune learnt that the meeting also deliberated on the statement credited to the NSA, Gen. Andrew Azazi, which had blamed the Boko Haram insurgency on the policies of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and agreed that the NSA's position had been wrongly interpreted.
The security chiefs were said to have agreed that the NSA was quoted out context as he meant to say that those responsible were "greedy politicians who insisted that no one else can rule Nigeria after the demise of President Umaru Yar'Adua, except someone from the same region."
The source further asserted that "the meeting heaped the blame on greedy and selfish politicians who don't want Nigerians from outside their region to rule the country. Otherwise how do you explain the genuineness and sincerity as well as equity disposition of a political party that wants all Nigerians to aspire to become president, to mean something else."
