The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Samuel Shegun, over the alleged killing of his biological mother, Esther Adekanla, popularly known as Hadiza Nakowa. The incident occurred in Dutse town, the state capital.
According to CP AT Abdullahi, the state Commissioner of Police, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse arrested Samuel Shegun in connection with the brutal killing of his mother and injury inflicted on his sister.
The suspect was apprehended through tracking of the deceased's phone number, which linked him to the crime scene.
During interrogation, Shegun confessed that on February 12, 2024, his mother returned home from selling food and started fighting with a young girl, Christiana Michael. In the midst of the altercation, his mother wielded a knife. In an attempt to rescue the girl, Shegun intervened, leading to a struggle where the mother accidentally cut herself on the neck with the knife.
