The Osun State Amotekun Corps has announced the apprehension of two suspected kidnappers in the Oke Baale Area of Osogbo.
According to a statement issued by the Amotekun State Commander, Brig.-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, the suspects were captured on the premises of Ogidan Grammar School and Nawarudeen Grammar School, Oke-Baale, around 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday.
The arrests were made following a tip-off from vigilant residents of the area who noticed suspicious activities by the suspects, disguised as commercial motorcyclists.
Upon interrogation, the suspects failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for their presence on the school premises during school hours, raising suspicions of illicit motives.
Brig.-Gen. Adewinmbi urged residents to remain vigilant, cautioning that kidnappers often employ deceptive tactics to ensnare their victims.
"These criminals disguise themselves as ordinary citizens while engaging in nefarious activities," he warned.
The apprehended suspects have been transferred to the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
Adewinmbi urged the public to prioritize security consciousness and promptly report any suspicious individuals to law enforcement agencies.
The announcement comes in the wake of heightened concerns raised by the state government on March 11 regarding intelligence reports indicating a plot by certain individuals to mobilize criminals for disrupting farming and school activities through kidnapping activities.
