In a series of successful operations, Nigerian Army troops have captured a notorious gunrunner, intercepted a truck transporting illegally refined Automated Gas Oil (AGO), and rescued several kidnapped victims in Kaduna State.
The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, apprehended Mallam Hashimu Ahmad, a well-known arms dealer, at Saminaka in the Lere Local Government Area. Ahmad, who had been on the security agencies' wanted list, was caught while en route to deliver sophisticated weapons to terrorist groups. The seized arsenal included a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) Launcher, one RPG Bomb, 1,069 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, and one belt of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition. The vehicle used to transport these weapons was also recovered.
In a related development, troops in Sokoto State successfully rescued hostages who had been kidnapped and taken into the forest near Matalawa village in the Isa Local Government Area. Responding to a distress call, the troops engaged the kidnappers in a gunfight, resulting in the safe release of the hostages, who have since been reunited with their families.
Additionally, in Delta State, troops acting on credible intelligence intercepted a tanker truck carrying 15,000 liters of substance suspected to be illegally refined AGO at Ozoro in the Isoko North Local Government Area. Two suspects involved in transporting the illegal product were taken into custody for preliminary investigation, pending handover to the appropriate prosecuting agency.
The Nigerian Army continues to intensify its operations against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and other crimes, dismantling criminal syndicates across the country.
