A Glendale, California woman was arrested Saturday after allegedly stabbing her girlfriend in a domestic dispute, reports the Glendale News-Press. The reason for the fight? Dinner wasn’t ready on time.
Glendale News-Press reports that the girlfriend, whose name isn’t being released at this time, returned to their shared apartment after work and found suspect Stephanie Trujillo sleeping. The two began fighting over the fact that dinner was not ready when the dispute took a violent turn. From Glendale News-Press:
…Trujillo allegedly grabbed a 4-inch knife and threatened to hurt herself.
Trujillo told police that her girlfriend charged at her with a closed fist, so she stabbed her in the thigh.
A struggle over control of the knife ensued.
After the struggle, Trujillo was taken in to custody by the Glendale police department and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest, according to police records [PDF]. Bail was set at $30,000. Trujillo is 24 years old and her occupation is listed as “home care giver” on the arrest report. The Huffington Post’s calls to the Glendale Police Department were not immediately returned.
This past year has seen multiple reports of domestic violence that have been sparked during or while preparing a meal. In May, Alaskan couple Dustin Clark and Benjamin Peterson got into a violent dispute when Clark rejected Peterson’s homemade lasagna in favor of canned SpaghettiOs, reports the Peninsula Clarion. A New York man threw a pot of food at his wife because she wasn’t cooking fast enough, reports the Daily Courier-Observer. And just this month, a Florida woman threw a basil potted plant at her husband for preparing the wrong kind of meat for dinner, reports WPTV. WPTV notes that “basil, an aromatic herb often associated with Italian and Thai cuisine, is not often used as a weapon.”
