In the last leg of its investigative hearing into government’s petroleum subsidy regime, the Joint Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), Appropriation and Finance has invited the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Finance Minister, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and some stakeholders for fresh clarification of some grey areas.
Others invited to appear before the Senator Magnus Abe-led investigation committee next Monday and Tuesday after the on-going Senate retreat in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, are the former Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Austin Oniwon, the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), Mr. Reginald Stanley, the Managing Director of the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC) and at least three former PPPRA Executive Secretaries, Dr. Olusola Oluleye; Mr. Abiodun Ibikunle; and Mr. Goddy Egbuji.
Also invited are the Chief Executive Officers of Capital Oil and Gas Limited, Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah, Oando Nigeria Plc, Mr. Wale Tinubu, and Folawiyo Energy. Also invited is Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association (DAPPMA).
A member of the joint committee said next week’s interaction with the government officials and private sector operators is expected to be the last public meeting after which the committee is expected to collate and submit its report to the whole house.
The committee had earlier postponed a scheduled meeting of stakeholders due to the Dana air crash in Iju-Ishaga, Lagos on June 3. The Senate probe emanated from a resolution on a motion by Senator Bukola Saraki, who raised the alarm on government’s extra-budgetary spending on fuel subsidy in 2011.
