Samsung Electronics West Africa has partnered with Chelsea FC to launch the local version of Chelsea FC Dream the Blues youth football clinic at Onikan Stadium, Lagos.

According to MD Samsung Electronics West Africa, Brovo Kim," Dream the Blues aims to encourage football loving youths, from age 9 to 13 to develop and achieve their football dreams.

The initiative is an expansion of Samsung, Chelsea FC Youth Football Camp program, which has already benefitted 5,000 youths across the world. Nigeria has a lot of promise especially in sports.

"This can be seen in the wonderful performance of the Super Eagles in the recently held Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, where they won the Cup..We believe that Nigeria has a lot of hidden talents and we are committed to discovering and nurturing these talents.

"Our commitment can be seen in initiatives like this, our sponsorship of the Nigerian Football Federation and the African Cup of Nations" he added.

The Initiative

He noted that Samsung, Chelsea Dream the Blues Project is a global CSR initiatives that offers youth between the ages of 9 - 13 the opportunity to learn football and life skills in a 2- day football clinic anchored by four Chelsea coaches. To create a level playing ground for all kids, participants are drawn from a Consumer driven promo and from Orphanages. After the training, 2 outstanding participants are selected to proceed to Chelsea FC, Stanford BridgeUK for further training with kids from other parts of the world.

The Selection

136 participants were selected for this program. They were sourced in two parts.

The first set was selected from a Consumer driven promo. Consumers were encouraged to make purchases (which entitled them to raffle tickets) of Samsung products from dedicated brand shops. After the promo period, 51 lucky winners were selected through a raffle draw. These winners were each given slots for one child.

The second set of kids, 85 in all were drawn from 3 orphanages, Bab Salam (Ikeja), SOSVillage (Isolo) and Compassionate Orphanage (Igando).

Four training sessions took place during the 2 day camp. There was a morning and afternoon session on each day. On day one, children from SOSVillage took the morning session while half of the kids from the consumer driven promo attended the afternoon session. Children from Bab Salaam and Compassionate Home took the morning session of day two while the remaining kids from the consumer driven promo attended the afternoon session.

The session started typically with a pep talk from Chelsea coaches. The pep talk was made up of the Ice breaker, motivational talk and photo session. After the pep talk, the participants were split into four batches by age. Each batch had a Chelsea coach anchoring its training session. The coaches took them through basic football skills training such as dribbling, passing, shooting, etc. All through the training, the coaches looked out for outstanding performance. After the training session, the kids were reassembled. Each participant was presented with a Certificate of Participation and a Gift bag from Samsung. The most outstanding participant of the session was selected, given a medal and a raffle ticket.

At the end of the last session, four outstanding participants were entered into a draw and two lucky winners, Jep Mallam (SOSVillage) and Moses Oyediji (Compassionate Home) were selected to proceed to Chelsea FC, UK for further training.

Parents and Guardians at the event were treated to a Samsung Premium products experience. There were displays of Samsung lifestyle Home Appliances and a professional chef on ground to provide exotic dishes
