Multiple Accident, Gridlock On Lekki-Epe Expressway Posted by: amenbo 1 day ago    in News 0 Comments But for the quick intervention of officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps, it would have been a hellish experience for residents of Lekki as well as motorists plying the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos, western Nigeria as an early morning accident today caused a heavy traffic gridlock on the major road. The multiple accident involving three cars and a commercial bus at the Awoyaya area of Lekki also prevented many travellers, especially those going for Sallah celebration, from reaching their destinations early for the morning prayers. Many of such travellers were seen trekking to cut the off the scene of the accident so as to find other vehicles for their journey. The cars included an off-white Mitsubishi saloon specially registered as NOTBY-P1, a white/green-coloured Mazda commercial bus with registration number: XZ 725 FKJ, a Toyota Corolla with registration: EG 992 LND and a red-coloured car which plate number had torn off from the impact of the accident. According to PM News, the victims had been conveyed in an ambulance to a hospital, and the vehicles involved in the accident had been moved away from the road while Road Safety officials were seen directing traffic. There is still no confirmation of casualties, but witnesses said some of the victims were unconscious at the time they were rushed to the hospital. However, the vehicles involved in the accident had lots of blood stains. It was learnt that the Mitsubishi, coming from the opposite lane, had veered off the road against the vehicles on the other lane. “The Mitsubishi car must have lost its brakes,” one of the eyewitnesses said. Residents of the area said the spot had recorded some accidents this year because of its narrow state and overspeeding of vehicles. The State House of Assembly had last week called on the Governor of the State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, to consider expanding the road in the preparation of the 2014 budget estimate to be sent to the House soon. At the session, the House also asked for the deployment of officials of the state Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, to the expressway to curtail the excesses of motorists.
