There was panic in Akalovo, Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State on Sunday as residents woke up to the corpse of a young man reportedly slaughtered on Saturday night in what looked like a cult war.
The gory sight of the young man lying lifeless at the time of filing this report caused residents to run for safety, with many believing it was an initiation attempt as the area is said to be a den of cultists who operate without hindrance.
A resident, Chinazo Ilechukwu while speaking to journalists said, “The young man lying lifeless was slaughtered last night at Akalovo Emekuku Owerri in what looked like a cult war.
“The police division at Toronto Uratta has been allegedly contacted but they are yet to respond.
“There is panic in the community as the area is said to be a den of cultists who operate without hindrance.
When DAILY POST visited the scene of the incident on Sunday morning, residents were seen scampering for safety saying we don’t understand what is happening again.
They urged the government and security agencies to rise to the occasion by providing adequate security to enable Nigerians go about their daily activities without fear.
Many residents insist that cultists were behind the killing, the Police Public Relations Officer, Michael Abattam when informed thanked journalists assuring that he would alert the DPO immediately.
