Man Imprisoned For Motorcycle Theft In Jigawa

A 30-year-old man, Zakar Yahaya has been handed a six-month jail term by a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Hadejia, Jigawa State for stealing a motorcycle.

Yahaya, of Anku Quarters, Hadejia, was arraigned on May 24, 2022, for theft, an offence contrary to section 286 of Penal Code Law.

The suspect pleaded guilty and was sentenced without an option of fine by the Chief Magistrate, Sa'idu Galadima.

Spokesperson of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa, CSC Adamu Shehu, in a statement on Thursday May 26, said Zakar was arrested by personnel in Gujungu town, on Sunday, 22, May, following a complaint lodged by one Tasiu Mohd of Shagari Quarters, Hadejia that he saw the suspect in possession of his red color Daylong Motorcycle at the market.

Upon interrogation, Zakar confessed to have stolen the motorcycle on Friday, 20th of May, 2022 at Shagari Quarters, Hadejia in front of a Mosque at about 2000hrs while the night prayer (Isha) was ongoing.

He thereafter decided to dispose it at the popular Gujungu Market in Gujungu Town, Taura LGA which operates on Sundays, but ran out of luck.

The Daylong Motorcycle, valued at about N195,000 has since been handed over to the rightful owner by the court.
