The Nigerian Army has pulled out of service retired Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, the immediate past Chief of Army Staff.

This comes after the change of leadership of the Nigerian Armed Forces by President Bola Tinubu.

Recall that Tinubu had a few days ago approved the appointment of new service chiefs, marking the retirement of the past chiefs.

The Pulling Out Parade is a traditional Nigerian military ceremony to mark senior officers’ retirement from service, which includes a review of the parade by the retiring senior officer, a pull-out of the retired officer by top generals, and a March passed by troops.

In his valedictory speech on Saturday, Yahaya thanked God almighty for a successful career in the Nigerian Army that saw him reach his peak as the chief of army staff.

He stated that whatever has a beginning must have an end.

According to him, today marked the end of his career, which began on September 27, 1985, when he reported to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).

Yahaya said, “The Nigerian Army has indeed grown, and I want to use this opportunity to appreciate my predecessors for their dedicated service to the Army.

“It was on those efforts and platforms that I tried to build which enabled me to contribute my own quota to the upliftment of the Nigerian army,”
he said.
