In a harrowing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, at least 10 passengers traveling in a commercial bus from Wukari, Taraba State, to Gboko, Benue State, were abducted by unknown gunmen in Jootar, Ukum Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue.

According to reports gathered by Sunday Vanguard, the passengers, identified as artisans, were en route to Akure in a Sharon bus when their journey took a terrifying turn. Armed assailants intercepted their vehicle, forced the driver out, and proceeded to drive the bus into the dense forests of Jootar.

A source familiar with the situation, speaking on condition of anonymity, recounted receiving a distress call from the driver shortly after the incident unfolded on Friday afternoon. The driver, who managed to use another person's phone, described how the gunmen seized control of the bus, leaving him stranded on the roadside.

"The driver said his vehicle, a Sharon bus, was stopped by heavily armed gunmen," the source stated. "He mentioned that they took his bus, abandoned him, and drove the vehicle into the bush with 10 passengers who appeared to be artisans en route to Gboko."

The driver, who had picked up the passengers from Takum Junction in Wukari, Taraba State, recounted that the abduction occurred merely two kilometers away from their starting point.

Ezra Nyiyongo, the lawmaker representing Ukum Constituency, expressed concern over the incident, noting that the victims had been intercepted while on their way to Gboko for menial jobs.

However, when contacted for official confirmation, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Catherine Anene, stated that the police had not yet received any formal report regarding the abduction.
