In a startling development, law enforcement authorities in Ondo State have apprehended an Islamic cleric, Oluwafemi Idris, along with two accomplices, Samuel Kutelu and Babatunde Kayode, after they were found in possession of fresh human body parts in the Akoko axis of the state's northern senatorial district.
The arrest, carried out by police operatives following intelligence received regarding the ritualistic activities of the cleric, has sent shockwaves through the community. According to Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, the suspects were nabbed during a raid on Idris's residence.
During the operation, police officers made a chilling discovery, uncovering a disturbing collection of human body parts within the cleric's possession. The recovered items included human hands, three kidneys, three hearts, a spine, and a tongue, indicative of sinister intentions.
Further investigation revealed that Idris had allegedly procured some of the human parts from an acquaintance, identified as an Alhaji and fellow cleric, while Samuel Kutelu facilitated the supply. Additionally, Idris confessed to supplying three human heads to another individual, Babatunde Kayode, known as an Oluawo.
While the identities of the suspects and the exact location of their arrest have not been disclosed to safeguard ongoing investigations, Odunlami-Omisanya emphasized the gravity of the situation and assured the public of the police's commitment to unraveling the full extent of the criminal network.
The arrest underscores the urgent need for intensified efforts to combat ritualistic practices and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation. As the investigation progresses, authorities remain vigilant in their pursuit of justice and accountability, aiming to dismantle criminal networks and ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
