In a tragic turn of events, the Niger State Police Command has apprehended a 19-year-old, Yakubu Tanko, for the alleged murder of his 14-year-old friend, Sikiru Tajudeen, in the Bosso Local Government Area of the state. The arrest was made following a thorough investigation into the disappearance of the minor, whose body was later discovered in a shocking location.

SP Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson for the police command, revealed that Tanko was taken into custody on Saturday, March 30, 2024. According to Abiodun, the deceased's body was found submerged in a septic tank within the community after he was reported missing.

The suspect reportedly confessed to the heinous act, admitting that he struck Tajudeen with a stick, causing fatal injuries, before concealing the body in a sack and dumping it in the kitchen. Tanko later retrieved the corpse with a borrowed wheelbarrow and disposed of it in the nearby septic tank in an attempt to cover up the crime.

During interrogation, Tanko claimed he had no motive for his actions but cited that Tajudeen had entrusted him with a phone to charge. However, he provided no further justification for his violent behavior.

"On 20/03/2024 at about 1900hrs, Police operatives attached to Bosso Div arrested one Yakubu Tanko 19yrs of Tudun-fulani area of Minna for a suspected culpable homicide of one Sikiru Tajudeen 14yrs of the same area," read the statement issued by the police spokesperson.

The investigation unfolded as suspicions arose within the community concerning a strange odor emanating from the septic tank. Upon further inspection, the tied sack containing Tajudeen's remains was discovered and retrieved by authorities.

Tanko's chilling admission of the crime has prompted further inquiries by law enforcement, with the suspect transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for additional interrogation and investigation.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community, underscoring the importance of swift and thorough police intervention in cases of suspected foul play.
