In a heartbreaking incident, the Bayelsa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the demise of Shallon Ebitare, a 14-year-old girl discovered lifeless in a hotel room in Yenagoa, the state capital, alongside her 17-year-old partner.

The distressing event unfolded on Wednesday, as reports indicate that Shallon and her 17-year-old boyfriend, identified as Lucky Okubo, checked into a hotel room in Yenagoa. Tragically, Shallon was found unconscious and later pronounced dead in the bathroom of the hotel.

Efforts were made to rush the young girl to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Yenagoa for urgent medical assistance, but sadly, she could not be revived.

Sources suggest that Shallon and Lucky had been romantically involved for several months prior to the tragic incident.

In response, law enforcement authorities of the Bayelsa State command swiftly apprehended the deceased's boyfriend on suspicion of murder.

Bayelsa State Police Command’s spokesman, ASP Musa Muhammed, confirmed the incident in a statement, disclosing that the state’s Commissioner of Police had ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Shallon's death.

Muhammed stated, "Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command apprehended a suspect in connection with the suspected murder of one Shallon Ebitare, a 14-year-old resident of Akaibiri Community in Yenagoa LGA."

"The suspect claimed that the deceased went to the bathroom to take her bath but fell, and sustained injuries. Sequel to this, he invited the hotel manager who assisted in taking the deceased to FMC Yenagoa where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty. Meanwhile, the suspect is in custody at the SCID Yenagoa while investigation continues with a view to ascertain the cause of death."

The community mourns the untimely loss of Shallon Ebitare, as authorities strive to uncover the truth behind this tragic incident.
