In a startling development, the General Overseer of CAC Freedom City Prophetic and Deliverance Ministry in Ilorin, Kwara State, Prophet Adeniyi Abiodun James, finds himself in legal jeopardy following accusations of defrauding a member of his congregation, Oluwole Babarinsa, to the tune of N3.98 million.

Prophet James's arrest by operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, stems from a petition filed by Babarinsa, detailing the alleged fraudulent activities perpetrated against him.

According to the spokesperson for the EFCC, Babarinsa's petition outlines how Prophet James purportedly exploited his religious authority during a church program in 2021, claiming to have received a divine revelation about Babarinsa's imminent journey abroad.

Intriguingly, the cleric allegedly seized upon this revelation to engage Babarinsa in discussions about his desired destination, with Babarinsa expressing interest in traveling to Canada.

Subsequently, an agreement was reportedly reached between Babarinsa and Prophet James, wherein the latter purportedly promised to facilitate Babarinsa's relocation to Canada through a contact in Lagos, albeit at a hefty financial cost.

Babarinsa, eager to fulfill his aspirations of international travel, allegedly complied with the demands, raising a total sum of N3.98 million through the sale of personal assets and loans, which he handed over to Prophet James for the purported facilitation of his travel arrangements.

However, as time passed with no progress on the promised relocation, Babarinsa grew increasingly apprehensive and began pressing Prophet James for explanations and the return of his funds. Despite repeated pleas and demands, Babarinsa claims to have received no satisfactory response from the cleric.

The EFCC has assured that thorough investigations into the matter are underway, with plans to arraign Prophet James in court upon the conclusion of the probe.

The shocking allegations against the religious leader underscore the importance of vigilance and accountability within religious organizations, as authorities work to uphold the trust and integrity of spiritual communities across Kwara State.
