In a significant breakthrough, the Lagos State Police Command has successfully apprehended three suspected armed robbers allegedly involved in a high-value robbery amounting to N4 million in 2023.

Confirming the arrest, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed to reporters on Sunday that the victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, reported the incident at the Ikorodu Police Division on October 10, 2023. The victim recounted being accosted at gunpoint by a gang of armed robbers in the Igbolomu area of Ikorodu.

During the harrowing encounter, the suspects forcefully took possession of the victim's valuable belongings, including a gold chain, pendant, and hand chain, collectively valued at N3.4 million. Additionally, the victim was robbed of a Samsung Galaxy S12 mobile phone valued at N280,000, two scalers worth N24,000, a power bank, and a substantial sum of $200 (equivalent to about N300,000).

Following diligent investigative efforts, the police successfully tracked down and arrested two of the suspected armed robbers, aged 28 and 38, in the Igbolomu area of Ikorodu in March. Subsequently, in the early hours of Monday, another suspect, aged 32 and claiming to be a photographer/director of production for a newspaper organization, was also apprehended.

During interrogation, the third suspect confessed to his involvement in the robbery, revealing that they sold the stolen gold chain for N2.2 million, of which he received N400,000 as his share. Furthermore, he disclosed that the firearm used in the robbery was in the possession of an individual named Alhaji, who is currently incarcerated for another offense.

All three suspects have confessed to their roles in the crime and are cooperating with the police in ongoing investigations. The arrest marks a significant milestone in the relentless efforts of law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of residents in Lagos State.
