In an unexpected turn of events, actress Jumoke Aderounmu, renowned for her portrayal of Esther in the hit series "Jenifa’s Diary," has died suddenly in her sleep, confirmed her brother, Adeola Aderounmu. The actress was not suffering from any known illness at the time of her death.
During a heartfelt interview with Punch, Adeola revealed that his sister had plans to relocate to the United Kingdom due to difficulties securing movie roles in Nigeria. The move was part of her strategy to find new opportunities and possibly rejuvenate her acting career.
The actress’s struggles in the industry came into the spotlight following her brother’s comments on how she reached out for support from her colleagues, including noted actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele, without success. Adeola disclosed that he personally did not contact Akindele due to not having her phone number, but Jumoke had attempted to reconnect through mutual industry contact Paschaline Alex.
Explaining the situation further, he said, "She (Jumoke) was concerned about no longer receiving calls for roles from Funke, who she had worked with closely in the past. She wanted to understand if she had done something wrong and tried to address it."
Adeola described his sister as an introvert who kept to herself, emphasizing the suddenness of her passing. According to him, Jumoke simply "died in her sleep" without any preceding illness.
As the family mourns their loss, plans are underway to hold a tribute event in her honor on the 40th day following her burial, to be held in a church as a celebration of her life and achievements.
The entertainment industry has reacted with shock and sadness over the untimely demise of Jumoke Aderounmu, remembering her as a talented actress and a gentle soul who will be dearly missed.
