In a swift response to Saturday's reported invasion of the Oyo State House of Assembly complex by a group of individuals allegedly affiliated with the Yoruba Nation agitation movement, the police have apprehended 20 suspects in connection with the incident.

According to a statement issued by the police spokesman in Oyo State, Adewale Osifeso, the suspects were arrested following their attempt to forcefully take over the government secretariat vicinity in Ibadan. The statement confirmed the recovery of a cache of weapons and paraphernalia from the suspects, including three pump-action guns, 29 live cartridges, and various other items such as cutlasses, bulletproof vests, and military camouflage uniforms.

Osifeso emphasized the collaborative effort of the police and other security agencies in thwarting the alleged takeover attempt, highlighting the swift response that prevented any escalation of the situation. He condemned the suspects' actions as criminal, unpatriotic, and tantamount to treasonable felony and terrorism.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Adebola Hamzat, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, with a directive to apprehend any other individuals connected with the alleged invasion. Hamzat assured the public that the police would continue to protect law-abiding citizens and uphold peace and security in the state.

The arrest of the 20 suspects underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding the Yoruba Nation agitation movement and the challenges faced by authorities in maintaining public order amidst heightened political and social unrest. As investigations proceed, authorities remain vigilant in addressing any threats to peace and stability in the region.
