
In a series of coordinated operations across multiple states, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted significant amounts of counterfeit currency and illicit substances, leading to the arrest of several suspects.
According to Femi Babafemi, the spokesperson for the anti-drug agency, three suspects - Favour Peter, Esther Adukwu, and Ochigbo Michael - were apprehended at Jabi Park in Abuja on Tuesday, April 9th. The suspects were found in possession of N3.2 million in counterfeit cash, following a seizure of fake naira notes in Lokoja, Kogi state.
Additionally, NDLEA officers, in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy Ship Lugard base in Lokoja, intercepted 37-year-old Aliyu Lawal along the Lokoja-Abuja road on Monday, April 8th. Lawal was found with 620 blocks of cannabis weighing 310kg. On Wednesday, April 10th, NDLEA operatives seized 10 sacks of cannabis weighing 98kg from Jama Obodo, 44, in a commercial bus traveling from Ilesha, Osun state to Taraba state along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja expressway.
In separate incidents, Sani Mohammed, 43, and Christopher Eze, 64, were arrested in the Sabon Gari area of Kano on Tuesday, April 9th, with 900,000 pills of opioids recovered from them. Furthermore, NDLEA operatives patrolling the Owerri-Onitsha road in Imo state on Friday, April 12th, intercepted a logistics truck and discovered 230 blocks of cannabis sativa weighing 119kg hidden beneath household items.
These operations represent a concerted effort by the NDLEA to combat drug trafficking and related crimes across the country. The agency continues to work tirelessly to apprehend individuals involved in illegal activities and disrupt the flow of illicit substances in Nigeria.
