In a significant military operation, troops under *Operation Fansan Yamma* have dismantled 22 camps operated by the Lakurawa sect in Sokoto State, neutralizing numerous bandits and seizing a cache of weapons and ammunition.
Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, Acting General Commanding Officer of the 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2, *Operation Fansan Yamma*, disclosed the details during an address to the Special Brigade tasked with eliminating bandit activities in Sokoto and Kebbi states.
Ajose highlighted that the precursor operations targeted key bandit hideouts in forests and villages across Illela, Tangaza, and Binji Local Government Areas, including Rumji Dutse East of Sarma, Tsauna, Bauni, and Magara Forest, among others.
“The operation resulted in the destruction of 22 camps, the neutralization of several members of the sect, and the recovery of four rifles, 409 PKT 7.62mm NATO rounds, and 94 7.62mm special rounds of ammunition,” Ajose said.
The deployment of the Special Brigade is part of a broader strategy to consolidate the gains of *Operation Forest Sanity III* and to disrupt the activities of the Lakurawa sect and other criminal elements in the North-West region.
Ajose urged the troops to carry out their mission with precision and professionalism, emphasizing adherence to rules of engagement and the protection of civilian lives and property.
“The people of Nigeria are counting on your expertise and determination to rid their communities of these threats,” he added.
This intensified campaign is expected to restore peace and normalcy to affected areas as the military pushes to eradicate banditry in the region.
