No fewer than 5 people have been killed amid intense fighting around the international airport in Aden, Southern Yemen.
Reports say Yemen's president, Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi loyalist forces clashed with fighters backing his predecessor, Ali Abdullah Saleh, and Shia Houthi rebels, after they attacked the airport. The president's forces are reported to have retaken control of it and flights have resumed.
Aden has been President Hadi's base since he fled the capital, Sanaa even as Houthis took full control of the place in January. On Monday, police special forces guarding several government buildings in Aden were attacked and at least 3 people were killed.
The militiamen eventually gained control of Aden's television building, its main power station, the intelligence headquarters and the free trade zone's offices - after 5 hours of clashes. Reports say the Houthis are taking the battle to President Hadi in Aden in order to prevent him from consolidating his new power base there.
