Dr. Bukola Saraki has refused to sign the Executive Pension Bill, which was passed by the Kwara State House of Assembly earlier this year. He stated that initially, many people were of the belief that the bill originated from the State Executive, only to find out later that he had nothing to do with it.  Speaking with members of the media on Saturday, 7 June 2010, he stated that, quite frankly, he found many of the provisions in the bill unnecessary. Some provisions of the bill, which he considered unnecessary include annual vacations, and provision of accommodation. He also questioned the pension rate proposed in the bill He further stated that though there are 8 states in the country, which already run similar pension schemes, he the resources of the state would not be able to meet up with the financial requirements of the bill. He said he would be sending the bill back to the state assembly in order to see what could be further be shaved of the bill.
