Child or Husband;which is the real woman's property?

When I was young, I used to hear from my mama that her children are her properties in my papa's house! I believed her because, children are the fruits of any union. Growing up, I used to hear from some women that before they got married, thier husbands are their property! I wanted to draw a conclusion that the real woman's property in her husbands house is the 'koko' and not the children!, but I would like to seek my friends opinion before I really conclude. So, pals, is it the 'koko' or children the ideal reason for women staying in their husbands house?
