The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced that Oluwadamilola Aderinoye, a former beauty queen and Miss Commonwealth Nigeria Culture 2015/2016, has surrendered to its Lagos Command after evading capture for eight months.
Aderinoye, who was declared wanted by the agency in January, turned herself in on August 28, 2024. The NDLEA had accused her of fleeing during a raid on her apartment in the Lekki area of Lagos on January 24, where she was allegedly involved in drug trafficking.
Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA's spokesperson, stated in a Sunday release that during the January raid, operatives recovered 606 grams of Canadian Loud, a synthetic form of cannabis, along with an electronic weighing scale, a large quantity of drug packaging materials, and a black RAV 4 SUV with Lagos license plate KSF 872 GQ. Her photograph was also found at the scene.
The former beauty queen, who also founded the Queen Christmas Foundation, reportedly went into hiding in Akure, Ondo State, following the raid. Babafemi confirmed that Aderinoye surrendered voluntarily after months of evasion.
Aderinoye's case highlights ongoing efforts by the NDLEA to crack down on drug trafficking and the illicit drug trade in Nigeria. The agency has yet to announce the next steps in her prosecution.
