The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Oyo State Command has apprehended 10 individuals on charges ranging from rape and illegal abortion to financial fraud. The arrests were announced by the state commandant, Augustine Padonu, during a press briefing at the command's Agodi headquarters on Friday.
Among those arrested is 19-year-old Aminu Victor from Adamawa State, who is accused of molesting his employer’s 9-year-old daughter. In a separate case, three men were detained for allegedly gang-molesting a 16-year-old girl. The suspects, identified as Qayum Babatunde, 18, Azim Gbadamosi, 19, and Mutiu Olaniyi, 43, all from Ibadan’s Oranyan area, are facing serious charges. Additionally, a 23-year-old unlicensed nurse, Moshood Oyindamola, also from the Oranyan area, was arrested for performing an illegal abortion on the victim.
The command also made several arrests related to financial fraud. Bakare Jide Damilare, 42, from Ogun State, was detained for allegedly conspiring to defraud Sarumi Hakeem of 17 million Naira under the pretense of selling a Toyota Highlander Jeep (2016 model). Damilare, who resides in Imota, Ikorodu, is accused of using multiple bank accounts to execute the scam.
In another fraud case, 25-year-old Alabi Victor from Osun State was accused of using his father's bank account to defraud an unsuspecting individual. Three additional suspects—Abiodun Oluwafemi, Akinloye Sakirat Folasade, and Victoria Akanbi—were arrested for allegedly defrauding a store owner of 738,670 Naira. Akanbi, who worked as a POS attendant, is said to have transferred the stolen funds to her accomplices between October 2023 and August 2024.
Commandant Padonu assured the public that all suspects would be prosecuted following the completion of investigations. "The NSCDC Oyo State Command is committed to ensuring justice and urges residents to report any suspicious activities to the NSCDC or other security agencies," he stated.
This series of arrests underscores the command's ongoing efforts to combat crime and maintain public safety in Oyo State.
