In a tragic incident that has shocked the Osun State community, Bishop Shina Olaribigbe of Rapture Empowerment International, Osogbo, was fatally stabbed early Thursday morning while intervening in a domestic dispute between a couple.
Details surrounding the identities of the couple remain unclear, but sources confirm that the wife was a member of the Bishop's church, where she served as an interpreter. The couple, known for their ongoing marital conflicts, had been living separately despite not officially divorcing.
On the fateful morning, the husband, apparently angered by his wife’s illness, went to her residence where the Bishop had been attending to her. Though no inappropriate actions were witnessed, the husband, overwhelmed by suspicion, assumed his wife and the Bishop were involved romantically. Enraged, he grabbed a kitchen knife and repeatedly stabbed the Bishop in the chest, ending his life.
The tragic incident has left the community in shock, with friends and followers of the Bishop expressing their sorrow on social media. One mourner, Oyeleye Isaac, shared his grief on the Bishop's Facebook page, writing, “BREAKING AND VERY SAD NEWS, WE LOST ONE OF OUR HEROES, Bishop Dr Olaribigbe Greatness. Why! Why! Why?”
Both the husband and wife have been taken into police custody, while the remains of Bishop Olaribigbe have been transferred to the morgue at UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo. The circumstances of the dispute and the reasons behind the fatal attack are still under investigation.
