Robbers kill student playing ‘good Samaritan’

A 400 level student of Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Technology Minna (FUT, Minna), Emmanuel Uduak, popularly called ‘Cross’ was shot dead by a group of armed robbers last Saturday when he attempted to save a female student from being robbed.

The attack occurred at an off campus hostel popularly called ‘Compton’ at No 13 Zarumai Road around Bosso metropolis near one of the campuses of the university.

Uduak, like other students of the university, had just finished his first semester examinations and was preparing to travel home to start six months’ industrial training.

Campus Roundup gathered from students living in the hostel that the unidentified female student had been trailed from campus around 3am and on getting to her house, the armed robbers tried to force her door open but she screamed for help.

A student in the compound said: “The lady noticed a flash of light and some people standing by her door. She called two people on her cell phone to ask for help but to no avail until she tried Emmanuel’s line. He came out to rescue her.  Immediately the hoodlums noticed a movement from his end, they shot and fled the compound.”

Another student in the compound said she heard a gunshot and the voice of a man calling for help.

As at the time of filing this report, the compound which used to be very lively has been deserted.

The student Uduak tried to save is now in police custody over investigation into the matter.

Police Public Relations Officer Richard Oguche, confirmed the incident, saying that the police had since swung into action and promised to unravel those behind the shooting.

Campus Roundup learnt that Uduak’s remains have been deposited in a morgue at the General Hospital in Minna and he would be buried tomorrow.
